  • 7 tbsp softened butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp red food coloring gel
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup red sanding sugar
  • 18 chocolate kisses

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring; mix until combined.
  3. Add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt; mix until just combined.
  4. Form cookie dough into balls using a tablespoon and roll each ball in red sanding sugar.
  5. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes. Press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie as soon as they come out of the oven.
  6. Allow cooling on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
